On Saturday 7 June, the National Centre for Mental Health attended the third annual Everywoman Festival at Insole Court in Cardiff. The festival is a a one-day celebration of women’s health and empowerment.
Established in 2023 by Professor Julie Cornish, Everywoman Festival continues its mission of equipping attendees with evidence-based information and expert guidance on a wide range of health topics.
NCMH exhibited in the Education tent, showcasing resources on a range of mental health conditions and raising awareness of two reproductive mental health studies.
Firstly, the Mothers and Mental Health (MaM) study aims to identify the causes and triggers of severe mental illness during pregnancy and following childbirth. Secondly, the PreDDICT study is looking at the causes and triggers of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a mood disorder with symptoms that present during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
Reproductive mental health researcher, Jess Yang said: “It was great to attend the Everywoman Festival again this year to chat to people about our ongoing reproductive mental health research. We heard from plenty of women who resonated with the experiences that we are exploring in our research, and it was so helpful to talk to them and likeminded organisations about how we can progress the field together.”
The festival’s holistic approach of combining medical insight, community support, and creative expression reinforces its role as a pioneering platform in the UK. Plans are already underway to expand to new locations, including London in 2026.
